Tire Pressure Monitor System Description

Circuit Description
The Low Tire Pressure Warning subsystem is a software system. That is, no separate vehicle hardware is installed to perform this task. Existing Antilock Brake System (ABS) components perform the low tire pressure warning function. The Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) software program has the ability to monitor and relate wheel speed to tire pressure. Wheel speed (from the ABS wheel speed sensors) is used to detect relative pressure differences among the tires. Relative means that the average or exact tire pressure is not measured, just the differences among them. The accuracy of the Low Tire Pressure Warning system is 10 psi (pounds per square inch) when calibrated. Low pressure detection time is approximately six minutes.
