(Replace Oil Level Indicator Tube Assembly)
Models:
1997 Buick Park Avenue, LeSabre, Regal, Riviera
1997 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, Regency, LSS
1997 Pontiac Bonneville, Grand Prix
with 3800 Series II Engine (VINs K, 1 - RPOs L36, L67)
Condition
Engine oil level indicates over-full by about 8 mm (0.3 in.) above the full mark even though the correct amount of oil 4.3 liters (4.5 quarts) with filter, is in the engine.
Cause
Supplier of oil level indicator tube assemblies made tubes about 8 mm (0.3 in.) shorter between approximately January 20, 1997 through May 15, 1997. Vehicles built with these tubes will indicate an over-full condition.
Correction
Replace the oil level indicator tube with a new tube assembly obtained from GMSPO.
