Windshield - Glare In Direct Sunlight

File In Section: 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical

Bulletin No.: 73-83-20

Date: September, 1997

Subject:
Head Up Display (HUD) Glare Off Windshield in Direct Sunlight
(Apply Black Flocking Tape to HUD Lens)

Model:
1997 Buick Park Avenue with HUD Option (UV6)

Condition

Some owners may comment on a bright reflection from the Head Up Display (HUD) unit in the instrument panel when the vehicle is positioned with the sun directly above the driver.

Cause

The defroster grill may not cover enough of the HUD's lens, allowing sunlight to hit the lens and reflect onto the windshield.

Correction

Black Goodwrench Flocking Tape should be applied to the HUD's lens using the following procedure to eliminate the above condition.

1. Remove the defroster grill from the top of the dash.

2. Clean the clear plastic HUD lens with Windex brand glass cleaner or equivalent and a soft non-abrasive cloth.

3. Cut a 19.05 mm x 1.9 mm (7-1/2 x 3/4 in.) strip of black Goodwrench Flocking Tape, P/N 12378189.

4. Apply the strip of tape along the forward edge of the curved portion of the HUD lens (just above the HUD's aspheric mirror). Press down firmly on the tape to insure proper adhesion to the lens.

5. Replace the defroster grill.
