Troubleshooting Hints - Power Windows
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS1. Door lock, power window and power mirror functions are controlled by modules that are common to all of these systems. These modules are connected by a serial data link. Therefore, the first Step in diagnosing any one of these systems must be to check the functions (Doors Locked, windows down, etc.) of all systems.
2. Using a scan tool, check for door module state of health Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to quickly identify if any module has a power, ground or serial data link fault.
3. Always check terminal contact before replacing any component.
4. If all power windows are inoperative from the Drivers switches, check RAP Circuit Breaker in the Engine Compartment Power Distribution Center. If circuit breaker is tripped, check for short to ground in CKT 742. Also, check the DRVMDL Fuse in the Rear Power Distribution Center. Replace fuse if blown. If fuse blows again when replaced, check for short to ground in CKT 1540.
5. If windows move slowly, check that:
^ Windows are free of mechanical binding; pivot joints are greased.
^ Battery is fully charged.
^ Grounds G201 and G202 are clean and tight.
6. If a motor's internal circuit breaker trips, it does not reset until voltage is removed from motor.
7. If power windows do not operate for approximately 10 minutes (or until a door is opened) after ignition switch is turned to OFF position, refer to Retained Accessory Power diagnosis. Accessory Delay Module
8. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage check. (Refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures).
9. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems. (Refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
