Drum Brake System: Adjustments

^ Tool Required:
- J 21177-A Drum to Brake Shoe Clearance Gage

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Remove tires and wheels.
2. Remove brake drums. Refer to BRAKE DRUM.

Adjust
A. Make sure stops on both parking brake levers are against edges of webs on park brake shoes. If parking brake cable is holding stops off edge of shoe webs, loosen parking brake cable adjustment.
B. Measure drum inside diameter using J 21177-A.
C. Turning star wheel on adjusting screw, adjust shoe and lining diameter to be 1.27 mm (0.05 inch) less than drum inside diameter at each wheel.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Install brake drums. Refer to BRAKE DRUM.
2. Install tires and wheels.
3. Apply and release brake pedal 30 to 35 times with a one second pause between each brake application.

Inspect
- For brake drag.
- For proper park brake function.
