Left Side

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Remove the engine lift bracket from the exhaust manifold studs.
3. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
4. Remove the right engine mount strut bracket.
5. Disconnect the left (front) spark plug wires. See Powertrain Management.
6. Remove the left (front) spark plug wire cover from the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. See Powertrain Management.





7. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover bolts.

NOTE: If the valve rocker arm cover adheres to the cylinder head, remove the valve rocker arm cover by bumping the end of the valve rocker arm cover with palm of hand or with a soft rubber mallet.

8. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover.
9. Remove the left (front) valve rocker arm cover gasket.
10. Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head and the valve rocker arm cover with a degreaser.
11. Clean the valve rocker arm cover bolts of all thread locking adhesive.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new valve rocker arm cover gasket. Ensure that valve rocker arm cover gasket is seated properly in the valve rocker arm cover groove.
2. Install the left (front) valve rocker arm cover.
3. Apply thread lock compound GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent, to the valve rocker arm cover bolt threads.
4. Install the left (front) valve rocker arm cover bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Install the left (front) spark plug wire cover to the left (front) valve rocker arm cover. See Powertrain Management.
6. Connect the left (front) spark plug wires. See Powertrain Management.
7. Install the right engine mount strut bracket.
8. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
9. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable.
10. Inspect for proper fluid levels.
11. Inspect for oil leaks.
