Removal

1. Remove the hood. See Body and Frame.
2. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable.
3. Drain the coolant. See Cooling System.
4. Drain the engine oil.
5. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
6. Remove the air cleaner duct. See Powertrain Management.

NOTE: Relieve the fuel pressure. See Powertrain Management.

7. Disconnect the fuel lines from the rail and the mounting bracket. Lay the fuel lines aside. See Powertrain Management.
8. Disconnect the throttle and cruise cables with the mounting bracket from the throttle body. See Powertrain Management.
9. Remove the engine mount struts from the engine mount strut brackets.
10. Remove the engine mount strut brackets from the upper radiator support.
11. Remove the engine cooling fans. See Cooling System.
12. Remove the vacuum line to the transaxle vacuum modulator. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
13. Remove the vacuum booster hose from the engine. See Powertrain Management.
14. Remove the power steering pump from the engine. Lay the power steering pump aside. See Steering and Suspension.
15. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine. Lay the A/C compressor aside. Secure the compressor to the frame. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
16. Remove the electrical connections from the engine. See Powertrain Management.
17. Remove the upper radiator hose from the engine. See Cooling System.
18. Remove the lower radiator hose from the engine. See Cooling System.
19. Remove the heater hoses from the engine. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
20. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
21. Remove the flex plate cover. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
22. Remove the starter motor. See Starting and Charging.
23. Scribe the torque converter to the flex plate for installation.
24. Remove the flex plate-to-torque converter bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
25. Remove the transaxle brace. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
26. Remove the engine mount to frame nuts.
27. Remove the three way catalytic converter pipe from the manifold. See Powertrain Management.
28. Remove the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
29. Lower the vehicle.
30. Remove the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
31. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
