Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Charging Procedure

1. Connect the battery charger to the battery. Make sure all connections are clean and tight.
2. When charging batteries that are removed from the vehicle, install a terminal adapter kit (AC Delco P/N ST-1201, GM P/N 12303040, or equivalent). The adapters should be tight against the lead terminals of the battery to prevent excessive resistance between the adapters and the terminals.
3. Set charger on high setting. A 45 to 50 ampere charging level is recommended for a discharged battery.
4. Charge the battery until the green dot appears. Check the battery every 30 minutes while it is charging. Tap the hydrometer lightly on top to dislodge any air bubbles that may be preventing the green dot from appearing.
5. After charging, check the battery as outlined under "Diagnosis".
