Condition

Some owners may comment on insufficient heater performance on the passenger side floor area.

Cause

The right side heater outlet may be partially covered by the instrument panel insulator panel (hush panel). This condition may be attributed to a wiring harness being slightly out of position and not allowing the insulator panel to be installed properly.

Correction

Install new I/P insulator panel and bracket. The wiring harness will now be secured to a bracket and allow clearance to properly install the insulator panel.

Important:
Vehicles that are not experiencing this condition and need replacement of the insulator panel must install the following items. The old style panel will no longer be available from SPO so the vehicle must be updated to the new style panel and bracket.

Procedure

1. Remove old I/P insulator following the procedure in Section 80 of the Service Manual.

2. Remove two (2) screws on lower right side of heater outlet cover (Figure 1) and install bracket.

3. Using the tie strap retainer, secure wiring harness to the forward side attachment hole on the bracket (Figure 1).

4. Install new I/P insulator panel following the procedure in Section 80 of the Service Manual and install additional retainer to the previously installed bracket.
