Wiper Arm: Service and Repair
Description:
Remove or Disconnect
1. Turn ignition switch to "ACCY" position.
2. Set wiper switch to "PULSE" position.
3. Turn ignition switch off when wiper arms are at the bottom of the wipe pattern (innerwipe) and not moving.
4. Washer hose (10) from washer nozzle.
5. Cover (11) from nut (12).
6. Nut (12) from wiper arm assembly (13) and wiper transmission assembly drive shaft (A).
Important
^ If wiper arm assembly cannot be removed from wiper transmission assembly drive shaft by rocking, a battery puller may be used. Pin (B) from new wiper arm assembly may be used to ease removal.
7. Wiper arm assembly (13) from wiper transmission assembly drive shaft (A) by rocking.
8. Wiper blade assembly (14) from wiper arm assembly (13).
A. Push in button (C) of wiper blade assembly clip (D) and remove wiper blade assembly (14) from inside radius of wiper arm assembly (13).
B. Bring wiper arm assembly (13) out through opening in wiper blade assembly (14).
Install or Connect
NOTICE: Refer to Service Precautions.
1. Wiper blade assembly (14) on Wiper arm assembly (13).
2. Wiper arm assembly (13) on wiper transmission assembly drive shaft (A).
A. Put ignition switch in "ACCY" position.
B. Set wiper switch to "PULSE" position. Windshield wiper system should be operating.
C. Turn ignition switch off when wiper drive system is at the bottom of its wipe cycle (innerwipe) and not moving.
Important
^ Measuring device must be held at 90 degrees (perpendicular) to the wiper blade assembly
^ Pin (B) or same-size drill bit should be used in wiper arm assembly during installation.
D. Install wiper arm assembly (13) on wiper transmission assembly drive shaft (A) while maintaining the following distances between wiper blade assembly (14) and bottom of windshield:
^ RH 92 - 114 mm (3.63 4.49 in.) (PONT)
^ RH 92 - 114 mm (3.63 - 4.49 in.) (BUICK)
^ LH 125 - 147 mm (4.93 5.78 in.) (PONT)
^ LH 110 - 132 mm (4.33 - 5.19 in.) (BUICK)
3. Nut (12) or wiper transmission assembly drive shaft (A) and wiper arm assembly (13).
Tighten
^ Nut to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).
4. Pin (B) from wiper arm assembly (13)
5. Cover (11) on nut (12).
Important
^ Lubricate washer hose with windshield washer solvent to ease installation on washer nozzle.
6. Washer hose (10) on washer nozzle.
7. Operate wipers and check for proper operation.
