B0603
DTC B0603 BCM Internal Memory Malfunction:
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Body Control Module (BCM) calibrations are stored in the EEPROM (Electronically Erasable Programmable Read only Memory). When the ignition switch is first turned to the RUN position, the BCM performs internal tests on the EEPROM and can determine the integrity of its non-volatile memory. The BCM attempts to write to its own non-volatile memory when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position and then to the OFF position. If after three unsuccessful attempts at writing to its own non-volatile memory, the BCM will indicate a calibration malfunction (write error) is current.
CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ The BCM has three consecutive unsuccessful attempts at writing to its own non-volatile memory.
^ Internal memory malfunction (write error) is detected by the BCM.
ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ Stores a DTC B0603 in the BCM memory.
^ No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC.
CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ Under all fault conditions, the ignition switch must be cycled from the OFF position to the RUN position before this DTC can clear.
^ The BCM no longer detects an internal memory malfunction condition (write error).
^ A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ Using a scan tool.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ Since the EEPROM is not removable from the BCM module and a DTC B0603 is an internal malfunction to the BCM, there is no repair procedure for this malfunction and module replacement is necessary. A service replacement BCM must be programmed and configured to the vehicle that is receiving the installation. Using a scan tool, make sure the BCM is properly programmed and configured for the correct PASS-Key (R) II and option content for that vehicle. Refer to New BCM Setup.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
1. Always perform the BCM Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose a DTC B0603.
2. This repair procedure requires BCM replacement.
3. Always clear DTCs after repair procedure is complete.
