DTC B0702 Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Relay Circuit (Part 1 Of 2):

DTC B0702 Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Relay Circuit (Part 2 Of 2):

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Retained Accessory Power (RAP) relay circuit is energized by the Body Control Module (BCM) when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or ACC positions. The RAP relay remains energized when the ignition switch is in the OFF position. When the RAP relay is energized, power is supplied to the radio, power windows, and power sunroof (if equipped). The RAP relay is then de-energized when any vehicle door is opened, or a period of 10 minutes elapses. The BCM monitors the voltage level on the RAP circuit. When the ECM commands the RAP relay on, the voltage level on the control circuit should be low, and when off it should be high. If the BCM detects a voltage level other than expected or an open, a fault condition is present and a DTC will set. This DTC is for the Century Limited, Regal Custom, and Regal Gran Sport models only.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ BCM detects a short to ground or open in the RAP circuit (circuit 707) when the RAP relay is inactive or off.
^ The BCM can only test for this condition when the BCM attempts to de-energize the RAP relay.
^ All conditions must be present for more than 0.3 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ Stores a DTC B0702 in the BCM memory.
^ No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ A short to ground or an open in the RAP relay circuit (circuit 707) is no longer detected by the BCM when the RAP relay is de-energized.
^ A history DTC B0702 will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ Using a scan tool.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur:
- An intermittent open or short to ground in circuit 707.
- Poor connections at the BCM, or the RAP relay terminals.
- RAP relay coil shorted to ground or open internally.
^ If the BCM is open or shorted to ground internally.
^ If DTC B0702 is a history DTC, the problem may be intermittent. Try performing the tests shown while moving wiring and connectors, this can often cause the malfunction to appear.
^ If DTC B0702 is set on a Century Custom model, DTC B0702 should be permanently disabled by using the service programming setup procedure.
^ DTC P1626 will set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when the ignition switch is in the RUN position with the BCM disconnected.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
1. Always perform the BCM Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose a DTC B0702.
2. Checks for proper vehicle usage of the RAP feature.
3. The Century Custom model is not equipped with the RAP feature. The BCM Setup procedure permanently disables the BCM from setting DTC B0702.
4. Checks for voltage in circuit 707.
5. Clears BCM DTCs and checks for BCM DTC B0702 again.
6. Checks for a short to ground in circuit 707.
7. Determines if the short to ground is in circuit 707 or the RAP relay.
8. Checks for an open in circuit 707.
10. Determines if the open is in circuit 240 or the RAP relay.
