DTC B0703 Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Relay Circuit (Part 1 Of 2):

DTC B0703 Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Relay Circuit (Part 2 Of 2):

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The Retained Accessory Power (RAP) relay circuit is energized by the Body Control Module (BCM) when the ignition switch is turned to the RUN or ACC position. The RAP relay remains energized when the ignition switch is in the OFF position. When the RAP relay is energized, power is supplied to the radio, power windows, and power sunroof (if equipped). The RAP relay is then de-energized when any vehicle door is opened, or a period of 10 minutes elapses. The BCM monitors the voltage level on the RAP circuit. When the BCM commands the RAP relay on, the voltage level on the control circuit should be low, and when off it should he high. If the BCM detects a voltage level other than expected, a fault condition is present and a DTC will set. This DTC is for the Century Limited, Regal Custom, and Regal Gran Sport models only.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ BCM detects a short to B+ in the RAP circuit (circuit 707) when the ignition switch is in RUN position and the BCM is attempting to energize the RAP relay.
^ All conditions must be present for more than 0.3 seconds.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ Stores a DTC B0703 in the BCM memory.
^ No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC.
^ The BCM turns off its output to the RAP relay.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ Under all fault conditions, the ignition switch must he cycled from the OFF position to the RUN position before this DTC can change from current to history.
^ A short to B+ in the RAP relay circuit (circuit 707) is no longer detected by the BCM.
^ A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ Using a scan tool.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur:
- An intermittent short to B+ in circuit 707.
- BCM shorted to B+ internally.
- RAP relay coil shorted to B+ internally.
^ If the DTC is a history DTC, the problem may be intermittent. Try performing the tests shown while moving wiring and connectors, this can often cause the malfunction to appear.
^ DTC P1626 will set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when the ignition switch is in the RUN position with the BCM disconnected.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
1. Always perform the BCM Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose a DTC B0703.
2. Checks for proper vehicle usage of the RAP feature.
3. The Century Custom model is not equipped with the RAP feature. The BCM Setup procedure permanently disables he BCM from setting DTC B0703.
4. Checks for a short to B+ in circuit 707.
5. Determines if there is a short to B+ in circuit 707 or the BCM.
8. Checks for BCM DTC B0703 to set again.
