(Replace/Correct Weatherstrip/Molding)

This bulletin contains information on several conditions.

Condition # 1

Some owners may comment on wind noise around the mirror.

Cause

The run channel gaps to the glass in the vertical section of the run channel at the mirror.





Figure 1 shows how to identify an old molding to a new molding.

Correction

Replace the run channel.

Condition # 2

Some owners may comment on a buzz type of noise at the top of the door during hot weather or at speeds above 96 km/h (60 mph).

Cause

The front door upper reveal molding vibrates against

the body.





Correction

Replace the upper reveal molding. The new molding has more material for added stiffness. To aid in identifying an old molding, it has a parting line (1) down the center of the molding.

Condition # 3

Some owners may comment on the wind noise around the mirror between the door and the door trim.

Cause

This condition may be caused by a lack of sealer around the inner door panel surfaces.





Correction

Fill the holes shown with a thumb grade sealer. Use Strip Caulk Black P/N 08578 by 3M(R) or the equivalent. Seal all the shaded areas as shown in the illustration.

Condition # 4 (Vehicles Built Prior to 11/3/98)

Some customers may comment on a buzz type of noise at the top of the B pillar during hot weather and at speeds above 96 km/h (60 mph).

Cause

The B pillar applique seal vibrates against the front door.

The rear door applique seal durometer has been changed to correct this condition. See parts information for changes.

Correction

Replace the rear door window applique.

Condition # 5 (Oldsmobile Only)

Some customers may comment on a whistle around the mirror.

Cause





The outer belt reveal molding under the mirror may have come loose. Refer to Figure 4.

Correction

Clean the mating surfaces with an adhesive cleaner.

Reinstall the molding (1) using Goodwrench Black

Toughened Adhesive, P/N 12346067.

Condition # 6

Some customers may comment that there is a windrush coming from the front or the rear of the vehicle.

Cause

The front windshield or the backlite reveal molding gaps to the roof.

Correction

Glue the molding to the roof using Goodwrench Black Toughened Adhesive, PIN 12346067. In some rare occasions, the glass may need to be repositioned in the opening.

Condition # 7

Some customers may comment on windrush around the mirror.

Cause

There are gaps around the mirror applique.

Correction

Reposition the mirror and the mirror applique.

Condition # 8

Some owners may comment on the road noise at the top of the door trim pad.

Cause





This condition may be caused by the upper door trim being pushed on too far and pulling the inner belt seal away from the glass. Refer to Figure 5.

Correction

With the glass in the full down position, use a trim stick to pull the upper lip of the inner belt seal out from under the trim pad from front to rear. Refer to Figure 5.
