Removal Procedure
^ Tools Required:
- J 28467-B Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-9OA Engine Support Adapter
- J 36462-A Engine Support Adapter Leg Set
- J 35944-A Oil Cooler and Line Flusher
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery ground (negative) cable.
2. Fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Air cleaner duct. Refer to POWERTRAIN MANAGEMENT.
4. Wiring harness connectors from transaxle.
- Transaxle range switch.
- Solenoid harness connector.
5. Vacuum hose and pipe from modulator.
6. Automatic transaxle range selector lever cable from transaxle range switch.
7. Automatic transaxle range selector lever cable bracket with cable from transaxle.
8. Fluid filler tube.
9. Upper transaxle bolts/screws including wiring harness grounds.
10. Install engine/transaxle support J 28467-B, J 28467-9OA and J 36462-A.
11. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
12. Front tires and wheels.
13. Inner splash shields.
14. Both tie rod ends from steering knuckles.
15. Power steering gear heat shield.
16. Power steering gear to frame retaining bolts/screws.
17. Power steering gear from frame and secure to vehicle with wire.
18. Power steering cooler line clamps from frame.
19. Engine mount to frame retaining nuts and washers.
20. Lower ball joints from knuckles.
21. Converter cover.
22. Starter motor.
23. Torque converter bolts screws.
24. Drain transaxle fluid.
25. Transaxle oil cooler hoses from transaxle.
26. Drive axles from transaxle.
27. Secure drive axles to steering knuckle/struts.
28. Wiring harness connectors from transaxle.
- Vehicle speed sensor.
- Wheel speed sensor harness connectors.
29. Support transaxle/frame with transaxle table.
30. Transaxle brace.
31. Remaining transaxle to engine and engine to transaxle bolts/screws.
32. Frame to body bolts/screws.
33. Lower transaxle/frame assembly from vehicle.
34. Transaxle from frame to bench.
Inspect
- For inspection and overhaul procedures. Refer to the TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE/TRANSFER CASE UNIT REPAIR.
Clean
- Transaxle oil cooler(s), hoses and pipes should be flushed using J 35944-A or equivalent whenever the transaxle has been removed for overhaul or replacement of the torque converter pump or case.
