System Description
The Keyless System includes a hand-held radio Transmitter and Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module.) The Transmitter sends a digitally encoded radio signal to the module when a button is pushed. The following circuits can be controlled:1. Illuminated Entry lights.
2. Door locks (all doors or just driver's).
3. Luggage compartment lid release.
^ Transmitter - range is approximately 7 meters (23 feet).
Illuminated Entry
The RFA Module grounds the interior lamps for approximately 40 seconds when a door unlock signal is received or until the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN."
Door Locks
If the RFA transmitter Unlock Button is pressed once, it will turn on its output at connector C1 terminal "A."
When the RFA Transmitter Unlock Button is pressed once, the driver's door will be unlocked. The RFA Module receives the transmitted signal and activates it's output at connector C1 terminal "A." This applies battery voltage directly to the LH front Door Lock Motor which is grounded through the Automatic Door Lock Relay.
Pushing the Unlock Button twice within five seconds results in the RFA Module activating it's output at Connector C1 terminal "A" and Connector C1 terminal "B." The driver's door motor is driven directly by the RFA Module as described above, and the Unlock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly is energized, causing the Passengers doors to unlock.
Pushing the Lock Button results in the RFA Module activating its output at Connector C1 terminal "R." This energizes the Lock Relay in the Automatic Door Lock Relay and locks the doors. The driver"s door is grounded through the RFA Module when locking.
Security Features
To prevent the unwanted possibility of the transmitter signal from being recorded and retransmitted to unlock the doors, a "rolling code" is incorporated into the RFA Module. Each time the transmitter is used, the RFA Module increments the "rolling code" to the next code. if the transmitter is activated outside the range of the RFA Module for more than a predetermined number of actuations, the transmitter will no longer be synchronized with the RFA Module"s "rolling code." The transmitter will not be functional until it has been resynchronized with the RFA Module. To resynchronize the transmitter to the RFA Module, the operator must hold both the "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons for approximately 10 seconds while within the RFA Module's signal reception range. This will produce a cycling of the locks to notify the operator that the system is now synchronized and operational.
Luggage Compartment Lid Release
The luggage compartment lid release is operated by applying battery voltage to the Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid when the Trunk Release Button on the Transmitter is pressed. The RFA Module cannot activate the Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid when terminal "K" of module connector C1 is not grounded. This terminal is grounded when the gear selector (Automatic) is in Park or Neutral or when the Park Brake is set (Manual).
