Troubleshooting Hints - Interior Lights

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS

NOTE: The Multi-Function Alarm Module will "go to sleep" 3 or 20 minutes after "key off," depending if the vehicle has travelled over 15 miles. Until the Multi-Function Alarm Module "goes to sleep," it will draw 60 - 80ma. Once the Multi-Function Alarm Module "goes to sleep," the amperage draw will drop to 3-15ma.

CAUTION: The SIR driver deployment loop (CKT 347 and 348) passes through connector C200. You must take special precautions before servicing connector C200. Disable the SIR system before you disconnect, probe, or service connector C200. Refer to "Disabling the SIR System" in Air bags and Seat Belts. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal Injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs. Restraints and Safety Systems

NOTE:
^ If vehicle is left for 24 or more days without the Ignition Switch being put in "RUN," the illuminated Entry and Parasitic Power features will be disabled to decrease parasitic battery drain. Putting the Ignition Switch in "RUN" will restore these features.
^ Interrupting battery voltage to the Multi-Function Alarm Module by disconnecting the vehicle's battery or disconnecting the module will cause the interior lamps-on delay to be only 2 to 4 minutes and cause parasitic power shut down in 3 days, until the vehicle has travelled more than 15 miles with battery power restored to the module.
^ The Multi-Function Alarm Module controls Interior Lamps and generates chime alarms. Verify that all chime alarms operate before proceeding with the following diagnostic tests. If any chime alarms do not operate, refer to Audible Warnings: Chime. Audible Warning Device
1. If only one lamp does not operate, check bulb and related wiring.
2. Check that the Multi-Function Alarm Module is properly seated.
3. If Interior Lamps are intermittently inoperative, check that there are no Interior Lamps left on, especially the Luggage Compartment and I/P Compartment Lamps.
4. If none of the Courtesy Lamps work from the Keyless Entry, but are otherwise OK, refer to Keyless Entry. Audible Warning Device
^ Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators for Multi-Function Alarm Module access. Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (refer to Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
^ Refer to System Diagnosis.
