Ignition Lock System
All automatic transaxle models use an electric park lock system. Within the housing assembly, a lock cylinder is connected to an actuator which rotates and engages on the electric park lock solenoid slider when the shift lever is in any gear other than "PARK", the actuator disengages from the electric park lock solenoid slider and allows the lock cylinder to move to the "LOCK" position. With the shift lever in "PARK" and the lock cylinder in "LOCK", the rotational position of the actuator cams against the electric park lock solenoid slider and prevents the shift lever from being "Pulled Out Of Park". The Column Shift automatic transaxle model however, makes use of a flexible cable actuator instead of an electric park lock system. The cable is attached at one end to the gate assembly and the other end to the column mounted housing assembly. The system however, works similar to the Floor Shift ignition lock system as described above. A push button Lock cylinder is used with the manual transaxle. A clutch start switch is used so that the clutch pedal must be depressed before the engine will crank.
