System Check - Park Lock - Column Shift
1. Open drivers side door and keep it open.2. Depress parking brake to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
3. Tilt column to full up tilt position.
4. With the ignition key removed from the lock cylinder, make sure that the shift lever cannot be removed from the "PARK" position by attempting to pull on the shift lever. The shift lever should not shift from "PARK". If able to shift, refer to "Park Lock Adjustment Procedure Column Shift". Steering Column
5. Insert ignition key into lock cylinder. The key chime/alarm should be on and sounding.
6. Turn ignition key to the full "RUN" position where the instrument panel lights are on (illuminated), but the engine is not started.
7. Make sure that the shift lever cannot be removed from the "PARK" position by attempting to pull on the shift lever. The shift lever should not shift from "PARK". If able to shift, refer to "Interlock Solenoid Assembly". Verify that there is power to the solenoid. If there is no power to solenoid check electrical connections, brake switch, and refer to power to the solenoid and you are unable to shift from "PARK", refer to "PARK LOCK ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE - COLUMN SHIFT". 8. Depress brake pedal.
9. Move the shift lever from "PARK" down to "Low 1" and then up to the "Neutral" position. If the shift lever can not be shifted from "PARK" refer to "INTERLOCK SOLENOID ASSEMBLY". Verify that there is no power to solenoid when brake is depressed. Replace solenoid.
10. Attempt to turn ignition key to the "OFF-LOCK" position. The ignition key rotation should stop before reaching the "OFF-LOCK" position and the key should be restricted from being removed. If the key is removable, refer to "PARK Lock Adjustment Procedure -Column Shift".
11. With the key left in the same position (before reaching "OFF-LOCK") return the shift lever to the "PARK" position.
12. To unload the system, turn the ignition key towards the "RUN" position, then back to the "OFF-LOCK" position and remove the key fully: If the shift lever DOES NOT "Snap" forward into the full PARK detent and you are unable to remove the key, refer to "Shift Control Cable Adjustment" in Transmission and Drivetrain. If the shift lever DOES "Snap" forward into the full PARK detent and you are unable to remove the key, refer to "Park Lock Adjustment Procedure - Column Shift". With the key removed, the key chime/alarm should be off (silent). If the key chime/alarm is on, refer to "Park Lock Adjustment Procedure - Column Shift". Steering Column
13. Tilt column to full down tilt position and repeat steps 4 through 12.
14. If any adjustments are made to the system, complete a Park Lock System Check again to ensure proper operation.
Important
^ The Park Lock system and the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock System (BTSI) are operating properly if all steps can be completed correctly.

2. Close drivers side door.
