Inner Pivot Bushing

- J 29809 Bushing Remover and Installer
- Or Equivalent

OVERHAUL
1. Remove or disconnect the inner tie rod.

2. Disassemble the inner pivot bushing (35) from inner tie rod (26) or (41) using J 29809.

3. Assemble the following:
A. Coat inner pivot bushing (35) lightly with grease for ease of installation.
B. Inner pivot bushing (35) into inner tie rod (26) or (41) using J 29809.

4. Install or connect the following:
A. Center housing cover washer (23) fitted into rack and pinion boot (22).
B. Inner tie rod bolts (37) through holes in bolt support plate (36), inner pivot bushing (35) which is part of inner tie rod (26) or (41), center housing cover washer (23) captured in recesses in rack and pinion boot (22), insert into rack guide assembly, inside the rack and pinion boot (22) and into threaded hole in rod and rack assembly.
C. Tighten inner tie rod bolts (37) to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.).
D. New lock plate (38) with notches in the proper position over flats of inner tie rod bolts (37).
