Removal and Replacement

^ Tools Required:
- J 28467-360 Engine Support Fixture
- J 35944 Cooler Flushing Tool
- Or Equivalents

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Intake air duct.
3. Cable control cover.
4. Throttle cable.
5. Shift cable and bracket.
6. Throttle cable from throttle body.
7. Vacuum lines.
8. Electrical connections.
9. Power steering pump and set aside.
10. Oil fill tube.
11. Install engine support fixture J 28467-360.
12. Top engine to transaxle bolts.
13. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
14. Both front tire and wheel assemblies.
15. Left splash shield.
16. Both front ABS wheel speed sensors and harness from left suspension support.
17. Both lower ball joints.
18. Stabilizer shaft links.
19. Front air deflector.
20. Left suspension support.
21. Both drive axles.
22. Engine to transaxle brace.
23. Transaxle converter cover.
24. Starter.
25. Flywheel to torque converter bolts.
26. Transaxle cooler pipes.
27. Ground wires from engine to transaxle bolt.
28. Cooler pipe brace.
29. Exhaust brace.
30. Bolts from engine and transaxle mount.
31. Support transaxle with a jack.
32. Transaxle mount to body bolts.
33. Heater core hose pipe brace to transaxle nut and bolt.
34. Remaining engine to transaxle bolts.
35. Transaxle assembly.

Clean
^ Transaxle cooler and lines should be flushed with J 35944 or equivalent whenever the transaxle has been removed for overhaul or replacement of the torque converter, pump or case.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Place a thin film of grease GM P/N 1051344 or equivalent on the torque converter pilot knob.
^ Make sure to properly seat the torque converter in the oil pump.
2. Transaxle assembly into position with jack while installing right drive axle.
3. Lower engine to transaxle bolts in their proper location.
4. Transaxle mount to body bolts.
5. Engine and transaxle mount bolts.
6. Exhaust brace.
7. Cooler pipe brace.
8. Ground wires at engine to transaxle bolt.
9. Transaxle cooler pipes.
10. Apply adhesive/sealant compound GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent on flywheel to torque converter bolts and install bolts.
11. Flywheel cover.
12. Starter.





13. Engine to transaxle brace.
14. Drive axles.
15. Left suspension support.
16. Front air deflector.
17. Stabilizer shaft links.
18. Lower ball joints.
19. Connect both ABS wheel speed sensors.
20. Left splash shield.
21. Heater core pipe brace nut and bolt.
22. Both tire and wheel assemblies.
23. Lower vehicle.
24. Top engine to transaxle bolts in their proper location.





Important: Install the bolts in their proper location as shown.

25. Remove engine support fixture J 28467-360.
26. Oil fill tube.
27. Power steering pump assembly and adjust belt.
28. Electrical connections.
29. Vacuum lines.
30. Throttle cable to throttle body.
31. Shift cable and bracket.
32. Throttle cable.
33. Cable control cover.
34. Intake air duct.
35. Negative battery cable.
36. Fill transaxle.

Adjust
^ Shift linkage.

Inspect
^ Oil level.
^ For oil leaks.
