CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) identifies a malfunction within the Electronic Brake Control Module/Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBCM/EBTCM).

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ There is a solenoid short to battery inside the Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV). If DTCs C1261-C1274 are set along with C1256xx, pursue the solenoid DTCs first.
^ There is an internal EBCM/EBTCM malfunction

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ A DTC C1256 is stored
^ The ABS/TCS is not disabled, and the ABS and TRACTION OFF indicators are not turned on

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ The condition for the DTC is no longer present and the scan tool clear DTC function is used
^ 50 ignition cycles have passed with no DTCs detected

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
^ Two more numbers will follow the DTC C1256xx on the Scan Tool, which should be noted along with any other DTCs that may be displayed. These two numbers help engineering to determine the cause of the internal malfunction.
^ Inspect that the EBCM/EBTCM to BPMV connection is secure, tight, and free from corrosion.
