Troubleshooting Hints
PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS1. Check all cruise control inhibit criteria (listed below).
2. Check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
3. Check that cruise control module linkage is connected and moving freely.
4. Check cruise cable adjustment.
5. Check brake switch for proper adjustment/alignment.
6. Make sure that Center High-Mounted Stoplamp (CHMSL) is working.
7. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage check. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures.
8. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment Which may effect the integrity of other systems. Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures. Diagnostic Aids
Cruise Control Inhibit Criteria
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has the ability to disable cruise control if conditions are detected which would make cruise control operation undesirable. The PCM inhibits cruise control operation under any of the following conditions:
^ The engine is OFF.
^ The transaxle is in park, neutral, low or reverse gear.
^ Engine speed is too high.
^ Vehicle speed is too high.
^ Vehicle acceleration or deceleration rate is too high.
^ Antilock brake system/traction control system is active for more than 2 seconds.
If any of these conditions are present, the PCM requests via CKT 83 (DK GRN) that cruise control disengage. If the cruise status signal on CKT 85 (WHT) indicates that cruise control is still engaged when the PCM is inhibiting cruise control operation, DTC P1554 sets.
