Coupler HVAC: Service and Repair
NOTICE: The use of proper wrenches when loosening or making connections is important. A backup wrench should be used on the brazed or welded fitting to prevent distortion of A/C lines.
Remove or DIsconnect
1. Recover refrigerant from A/C system.
2. Place tool J 38042 on the refrigerant line directly behind dual O-ring joint female nut and hold pressure against nut.
3. Back off female nut until dual O-ring joint seal is broken, thus aiding in seal separation.
4. Once seal is broken, slightly tighten female nut to facilitate tool removal; then remove female nut and separate connection.
Install or Connect
1. O-rings.
^ Use non-metallic tools to minimize chance of impairing seal surfaces.
Inspect
1. Line for kinks and dents.
2. Connection for burrs and nicks.
Install or Connect
1. O-rings.
^ Lubricate O-rings with 525 or Mineral oil prior to installation.
Assemble
1. Align end forms for pilot-to-bore insertion.
^ Oil bore with small amount of refrigerant oil prior to assembly.
2. Push together completely.
3. Female nut.
Tighten
^ 24 N.m (18 lb. ft.).
