Description
The air conditioning system is designed to provide a comfortable environment inside the passenger compartment, regardless of weather conditions outside the vehicle. The air conditioning system does this by cooling, dehumidifying, heating and circulating the air that enters the passenger compartment, as necessary. The system consists of four different major parts:
^ The refrigeration system.
^ The heater system.
^ The air distribution system.
^ The mode/temperature control system.
A/C SYSTEM
The manual air conditioning system is a vacuum and electrically controlled heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. Vacuum circuits determine air intake and discharge locations; electrical circuits control A/C compressor clutch operation, fan operation and discharge air temperature.
The driver may select from eight different modes of operation from the system control panel. Fan speed and outlet air temperature are also manually adjustable from the control panel.
The manual air conditioning systems utilize the variable displacement orifice tube (VDOT) type refrigeration system. This refrigeration system is described in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
