Compass Degaussing Procedure

Compass Degaussing Procedure:
If the compass display can not be calibrated perform the following procedure:
1. Open the rear compartment lid.
2. Remove the electronic compass module.
3. Using a standard television degaussing coil rated at least 40 gauss or a bulk tape eraser
4. Degauss the rear shelf where the electronic compass module was mounted.
a. Read instructions on tool for proper operation.
b. Do not put degaussing tool near speakers or electronic compass module. This tool affects the magnets in these components.
c. Hold the coil close to the electronic compass module mounting area. The surface of the degaussing tool should be no more than one inch away from the electronic compass module mounting area.
d. Move the surface of the degaussing tool in a circular motion around the electronic compass module area. The motion is like ironing a shirt, only upside down.
e. After about 30 seconds, slowly remove the coil from the rear shelf area with the tool energized.
g. When the tool is at least 3 feet away from the shelf area, turn the degaussing tool off.
5. Install the sensor.
6. Recalibrate the system, refer to Manual Calibration Mode. Manual Calibration Mode
