Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS
1. Check the HTD MIR Fuse, if open check circuit 541 (BRN) for a short to ground.
2. Check the AUTO A/C/CRUISE Fuse, if open check circuit 1141 (BRN) for a short to ground.
3. If a new electronic compass module is installed, the system must be manually calibrated.
4. Since the Earth's magnetic field is weak compared to most magnets (i.e. a radio speaker magnet is thousands of times stronger than the Earth's magnetic field) and the electronic compass module is very sensitive magnetic fields. Many things can affect the modules ability to measure the Earth's field accurately. The following factors can cause errors in the compass display and should not be considered a malfunctioning system:
^ Magnetic character of vehicle
^ Rear defogger system
^ Hills and road crowns
^ Bridges, tunnels and tall buildings
^ Naturally occurring disturbances
^ Some electrical motors
5. Inspect the inside and outside of the rear compartment area for any source of magnetic disturbance (i.e. magnetic or metal objects or items that are not factory original equipment).
6. Inspect vehicle for an antenna with magnetic mounts near the rear compartment area. Antenna magnets should be at least 1 foot away from the electronic compass module.
7. Turn power OFF to any aftermarket electrical components and perform the System Check.
8. Make sure that wires are not routed under or over the electronic compass module.
9. Inspect the electronic compass module mounting, module should be tightly mounted with 2 fasteners.
10. Inspect speaker mounting, speakers should be tight and properly positioned. NOTE: never place speaker magnets on the rear shelf near the module.
