Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement (Front)
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
^ Tools Required
- J 38764-1A Wheel Speed Sensor Installation Kit, this kit includes the J 38764-4 Wheel Speed Sensor Instillation Tool and the J 38764-2 Wheel Stud Protector.
- J 22912-01 Split Plate Puller
Important:
^ Do not allow debris to enter the bearing when removing the sensor.
^ Do not add lubricant to the bearing through the sensor housing opening. The bearing is lubricated for the life of the vehicle.
^ Do not clean the grease from the toothed sensor ring. Grease does not affect sensor operation.
^ Inspect the sensor and bearing cap for any indication of water or debris entry (such as rust or grease being very fluid). If indication of water or debris exists, replace the entire hub and bearing assembly.
1. Remove the wheel speed sensor connector.
2. Remove the hub and bearing assembly.
3. Clean all dirt and debris from the sensor housing/sensor interface area.
4. Use a J22912-01 or equivalent in order to remove the sensor from the bearing assembly.
5. Clean the sealant from the outer diameter of the bearing hub using only a clean, lint free cloth.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Apply 620 Loctite(R) to the groove in the outer diameter of the bearing hub per the instructions in the service kit.
2. Place the hub and bearing assembly on J 387644 and J 38764-2 Wheel Stud Protector, in order to prevent possible damage to the studs.
3. Install the sensor. Use the J 38764-1A Wheel Speed Sensor Installation Kit in order to press the sensor into place.
4. Install the hub and bearing assembly.
