Cruise Control: Adjustments

Switch Installation:




ADJUSTMENT
The release switch assembly and the stoplamp switch assembly cannot be adjusted until after the brake booster pushrod is assembled to brake pedal assembly. Incorrect adjustment could cause the cruise control system to not work properly. For more information about the stoplamp switch adjustment refer to Brakes.

Adjust
1. Do not Press brake pedal assembly. Insert cruise release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly into retainers until fully seated against brake pedal bracket.
2. Twist switch to lock into desired position.

Measure: Measure distance from the end of the threads on the switch to the bracket, make sure clearance is 1.5 to 1.7 mm (1/16 inch). If not correct perform steps 1 and 2 again.

MEASURE
^ The following brake pedal assembly travel distances can be used to check for properly adjusted release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly.
^ Release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly contacts must be open at 3.5 to 12.5 mm (1/8 to 1/2 inch) brake pedal assembly travel, measured at the centerline of the brake pedal assembly pad. Nominal actuation of the stoplamp switch assembly contacts is about 4.5 mm (3/16 inch) after cruise control switch assembly contacts close.

REPLACEMENT

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Three electrical connectors.
2. Release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Release switch assembly and stoplamp switch assembly.
2. Three electrical connectors.
3. Adjust.
