Engine Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the hood.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
3. Depressurize the fuel lines.
4. Drain the coolant.
5. Drain the engine oil.
6. Remove the radiator hoses.
7. Remove the heater supply hoses.
8. Remove the drive belt.
9. Remove the power steering pump. Set the pump aside.
10. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor.
11. Remove the air flow duct.
12. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle linkage.
13. Disconnect the battery wire from the generator.
14. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the fuel rail and the pressure regulator. Remove the brake booster from the engine vacuum connections.
15. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
16. Remove the exhaust pipe from the right manifold.
17. Remove the wiring harness connectors from the following locations:
- The MAT sensor
- The throttle position sensor
- The idle air control valve
- The oxygen sensor
- The A/C compressor
- The oil pressure switch
- The power steering cutout switch
- The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- The low oil level sensor
18. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine. Tie the compressor back away from the engine.
19. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the engine block.
20. Remove the flywheel cover.
21. Remove the starter motor.
22. Remove the torque converter to flywheel bolts.
23. Remove the right front tire and wheel.
24. Remove the right engine splash shield.
25. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
26. Remove the engine to transmission brackets.
27. Remove the right lower transmission to engine bolts.
28. Lower the vehicle.
29. Remove the generator rear brace.
30. Disconnect the engine harness connector at the bulkhead.
31. Remove the cruise control stepper motor from the cowl and set aside.
32. Attach a suitable lifting hook and chain to the engine lifting brackets.
33. Raise the engine slightly to take weight off the mounts.
34. Remove the engine mount.
35. Remove the engine mount bracket.
36. Remove the accessory drive belt and the supercharger belt (if equipped)
37. Remove the four engine to transmission bolts.
38. Remove the engine from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lower the engine.
2. Install the four engine to transmission bolts.
3. Install the accessory drive belt and the supercharger belt (if equipped)
4. Install the engine mount bracket.
5. Install the engine mount.
6. Remove the chain and lifting hook from the lifting brackets.
7. Install the cruise control stepper motor to the cowl and set aside.
8. Connect the engine harness connector at the bulkhead.
9. Install the generator rear brace.
10. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably.
11. Install the right lower transmission to engine bolt.
12. Install the engine to transmission bracket.
13. Install the crankshaft balancer.
14. Install the right engine splash shield.
15. Install the right front tire and the wheel.
16. Install the torque converter to flywheel bolts.
17. Install the starter motor.
18. Install the flywheel inspection cover.
19. Connect the negative battery cable to the engine block.
20. Install the A/C compressor to the engine.
21. Install the wiring harness connectors to the following locations:
- The MAT sensor
- The throttle position sensor
- The idle air control valve
- The oxygen sensor
- The A/C compressor
- The oil pressure switch
- The power steering cutout switch
- The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
- The low oil level sensor
22. Install the front engine splash shield.
23. Connect the exhaust to the right exhaust manifold.
24. Lower the vehicle.
25. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the engine.
26. Connect the fuel feed and return lines to the fuel rail and the pressure regulator.
27. Connect the battery wire to the generator.
28. Connect the throttle cable and the cruise control cable to the throttle body.
29. Install the air flow duct.
30. Connect the air temperature sensor electrical connection.
31. Install the power steering pump to the engine.
32. Install the accessory drive belt and supercharger belt (if equipped).
33. Connect the heater hoses to the engine.
34. Connect the radiator hoses to the engine.
35. Fill the crankcase with oil.
36. Fill the cooling system.
37. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair
38. Connect the negative battery cable.
39. Install the hood.
