Supercharger Replacement

Supercharger Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Remove the fuel tank cap and relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing the fuel system in order to reduce the risk of personal injury. After you relieve the fuel system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing the fuel lines, the fuel injection pump, or the connections. In order to reduce the risk of personal injury, cover the fuel system components with a shop towel before disconnection. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place the towel in an approved container when the disconnection is complete.

Notice: Servicing of the supercharger unit itself is limited to replacement only. No attempt should be made to disassemble the supercharger, as parts damage may result.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

For Vehicles equipped with OnStar (UE1) with Back Up Battery:

The Back Up Battery is a redundant power supply to allow limited OnStar functionality in the event of a main vehicle battery power disruption to the VCIM (OnStar module). Do not disconnect the main vehicle battery or remove the OnStar fuse with the ignition key in any position other than OFF. Retained accessory power (RAP) should be allowed to time out or be disabled (simply opening the driver door should disable RAP) before disconnecting power. Disconnecting power to the OnStar module in any way while the ignition is On or with RAP activated may cause activation of the OnStar Back-Up Battery (BUB) system and will discharge and permanently damage the back-up battery. Once the Back-Up Battery is activated it will stay on until it has completely discharged. The BUB is not rechargeable and once activated the BUB must be replaced.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Depressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Service and Repair
4. Remove the supercharger belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.
5. Disconnect the right side spark plug wires from the ignition module and set aside.
6. Remove the generator brace. Refer to: Service and Repair
7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors.
8. Remove the MAP sensor bracket.
9. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and the fuel rail with the injectors. Refer to: Service and Repair
10. Remove the boost control solenoid. Refer to: Service and Repair

11. Remove the throttle body nuts.

12. Remove the supercharger.
13. Clean the intake manifold and the supercharger mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

Important: Do not use any sealer on the gasket.

1. Install the new supercharger to the intake gasket.
2. Install the supercharger.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the supercharger bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb ft).

4. Install the MAP sensor bracket.

5. Install the throttle body to the supercharger.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

6. Install the boost control solenoid. Refer to: Service and Repair
7. Install the fuel rail. Refer to: Service and Repair
8. Connect the fuel lines.
9. Connect the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors.
10. Install the generator brace. Refer to Generator in Charging System Service and Repair.
11. Connect the right side spark plug wires to the ignition module.
12. Install the supercharger belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement Service and Repair.
13. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
