Tilt Steering Column (Part 1 Of 2):
^ Tools Required
- J 41396 Modular Col. Holding Fixture
Notice: Linear shift assembly may be removed as an assembly or certain components may be assembled as necessary to do repairs. Remove or assemble only those components necessary to do repairs.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Do steps 1 through 4 under REMOVAL PROCEDURE in ELECTRICAL (BTSI) ACTUATOR C/S.
2. Do steps 3 through 7 under REMOVAL PROCEDURE in LOWER SHROUD, UPPER SHROUD.
3. Remove the shift lever.
4. Remove the shift lever seal.
5. Remove the park lock cable assembly (48) from the lock module assembly (15).
^ Lock cylinder should be in "OFF-LOCK" position and gear shift in "PARK" position.
^ Insert a small blade screwdriver into the slot in the lock module assembly. Push against the locking tab on the end of cable assembly and remove.
6. Pry the actuator arm of the electrical (BTSI) actuator (61) from the outer shift cable ball stud on the cable shift cam assembly (44) and mounting pin on jacket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.
1. Install the linear shift assembly (40) to the column.
2. Install the three flat head 6-lobed socket tap screws (43).
^ Linear shift assembly must be out of "PARK" position to install the lower socket tap screw.
^ Tighten screws to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
3. Install the transaxle cable to the inner shift cable ball stud on cable shift cam assembly (44).
4. Install the park lock cable assembly (48) to the lock module assembly (15).
^ Lock cylinder should be in "OFF-LOCK" position and gear shift in "PARK" position.
^ Locking tab on end of cable to slot in lock module assembly.
5. Install the actuator arm of electrical (BTSI) actuator (61) to the outer shift cable ball stud on the cable shift cam assembly (44).
6. Do Adjust and Inspect under installation procedure in electrical (BTSI) actuator.
