Removal and Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 28467-B Universal Engine Support Fixture
- J 28467-380 Engine Support Bracket








1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (VIN K) in Powertrain Management.
3. Disconnect the transaxle electrical connector.
4. Disconnect shift control cable bracket with cable attached.
5. Remove the top transaxle case bolts.
6. Remove the top bolt from rear transaxle mount.
7. Disconnect the oxygen sensor connector.
8. Remove the engine frame.
9. Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts. Mark the flywheel to converter relationship to ensure proper reassembly.





10. Disconnect Input speed sensor electrical connectors.
11. Remove the engine to transaxle bracket.





12. Remove the transaxle fluid filler tube.





13. Remove the rear engine mount.





14. Remove the remaining transaxle to engine bolts.
15. Remove the transaxle from vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the transaxle into the vehicle.





2. Install the transaxle to engine bolts.
^ Tighten the transaxle bolts to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the rear engine mount.





4. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube.
^ Tighten the filler tube bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the transaxle brace to engine.

Tighten the transaxle brace to engine bolts to 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).

6. Connect the input speed sensor electrical connectors.





7. Install the flywheel to torque converter bolts.
^ Tighten the flywheel to torque converter bolts to 62 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).

IMPORTANT:
^ Align the mark made on the torque converter with the mark made on the flywheel made in the disassembly.
^ Tighten all the torque converter to flywheel bolts twice.





8. Install the torque converter cover.
9. Install the engine frame.
10. Connect to oxygen sensor connector.
11. Install the left side steering rack mount bolts.
^ Tighten the steering rack mount bolts to 65 Nm (48 ft. lbs.).

12. Install the top bolt of the rear transaxle mount.
^ Tighten the rear transaxle bolt to 58 Nm (42 ft. lbs.).

13. Connect the shift control cable and the shift control cable bracket.
14. Check adjustment of the shift cables. Re-adjust as needed.
15. Connect the transaxle electrical connector.
16. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (VIN K) in Powertrain Management.
17. Connect the negative battery cable.
18. Check and adjust the transaxle fluid level.
19. Road test the vehicle and check for transaxle leaks.
