General Description
The Theft Deterrent System on this vehicle is comprised of two separate systems, the Personal Automotive Security System (PASS-Key III) and the Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) System. The Personal Automotive Security System (PASS-Key(R) III) is designed to help prevent vehicle theft by disabling the engine unless a key with a specific value (electrical) is used in the ignition lock cylinder. The components of the system are the ignition key (black or gray), steering column ignition lock cylinder, PASS-Key III module, and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) system is designed to provide a warning in the event of a forced entry through the doors. When a forced entry is attempted, the alarm warning system is activated, causing the horn to sound intermittently and the -exterior lights to flash in unison for approximately 3 minutes. The components of the system are the door jamb switches, door lock. cylinder switches, door modules, exterior lights, horns, and Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module.
The yellow indicator SECURITY on the IPC is controlled by both the PASS-Key(R) m system and the CTD system.
^ PASS-Key(R) III system, the PASS-Key(R) III module commands the RFA module to control the indicator only with the ignition switch in RUN.
^ CTD system, the RFA module controls the indicator only with the ignition switch in OFF.
Important
^ If the engine cranks, but does not start. The PASS-Key(R) III system is not causing the problem.
^ The content theft deterrent system does not affect engine starting.
