Air Cleaner Housing: Service and Repair



REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTICE: Refer to PCM and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Notice in Service Precautions.

NOTICE: Refer to Ignition Switch and PCM Connectors Notice.

1. Remove the negative battery cable.






2. Remove the screws from the air cleaner top cover.

3. Remove the PCM from the air cleaner. Refer to PCM
Replacement/Programming.






4. Remove the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector (1) from the IAT sensor (2).






5. Loosen the intake air duct from the Mass Air Flow Sensor end of the intake air duct.

6. Remove the intake air duct from the throttle body.

7. Remove the screws from the air cleaner.

8. Inspect air cleaner element.

9. Remove any loose debris that may be found laying in the base of the air cleaner.

10. Remove the air cleaner assembly.




INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install a new air cleaner element into the air cleaner assembly.


Air Intake System Description:





2. Install the air cleaner assembly to the engine compartment over the stud on the inner fender.

3. Inspect to see that the coolant recovery hose is not trapped under the air cleaner assembly.

4. Install the air cleaner assembly to the radiator support with the bolts.

^ Tighten the bolts to 4 N.m (35 lb. in).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Secure the air cleaner assembly to the stud on the inner fender with the nut.

5.1. Push to secure the nut.

5.2. Assure that the nut is fully seated.

IMPORTANT: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct must be lined up to the throttle body when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveabilitv concern.

6. Install the PCM from the air cleaner. Refer to PCM Replacement / Programming.

7. Install the screws from the air cleaner top cover.

^ Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb. in).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

8. Install the intake air duct over the throttle body, being careful to ensure that the intake air duct is secure around the entire outer edge of the throttle body.

^ Tighten the clamp assembly to 2 N.m 18 lb. in.


NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

9. Install the screws from the air cleaner cover.

^ Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb. in).


NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

10. Connect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector (1) to the IAT sensor (2).

11. Install the negative battery cable.
