Power Steering Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
- J 25034-C Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover
- J 25033-C Pulley Installer
1. Remove the pump drive belt.
2. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Hoses Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Disconnect the power steering gear inlet hose from the pump. Refer to Power Steering Hoses Replacement Service and Repair.
4. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector from the power steering pump.
5. Remove the 2 mounting bolts.
6. Raise and support the vehicle.
Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.
7. Remove the pump from beneath the engine.
8. Remove the pump and transfer the pulley as needed. Refer to J 25034-C.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the pump with the pulley. Refer to J 25033-C.
2. Install the 2 mounting bolts.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
3. Connect the power steering gear inlet hose to the pump.
Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
4. Connect the power steering gear return hose to the pump.
5. Install the pump mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Install the drive belt.
8. Fill the system.
9. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
10. Inspect the system for leaks.
