General Description
The dual zone A/C (CJ2) system is designed to provide a comfortable environment inside the passenger compartment, regardless of weather conditions outside the vehicle. The system does this by cooling, dehumidifying, heating and circulating the air that enters the passenger compartment, as necessary. The system consist of four different major parts: the refrigeration system, heater system, air distribution system and the mode/temperature control system.
Most aspects of the refrigeration, heater and air distribution systems are unique to vehicles equipped with a dual zone A/C system.
Vehicles equipped with the dual zone A/C system may also be equipped with steering wheel controls (UK3) that operate some A/C system and radio functions.
DUAL ZONE A/C SYSTEM (CJ2)
The dual zone A/C system is a vacuum and electronically controlled heating, ventilating and air conditioning system. Both electronic and vacuum circuits determine air intake and discharge locations. Electronic circuits also control mode, A/C compressor clutch operation, fan operation and discharge air temperature.
The driver may select a desired interior temperature, fan speed and one of eight different modes of operation from the heater A/C control. One of these modes is a fully automatic dual zone mode. In this mode the system determines the appropriate air intake, discharge locations, fan speed, and discharge air temperature, according to the driver or passenger selected temperature and information provided by the systems network of sensors. The passenger temperature control is able to significantly increase or decrease air discharge temperature on the passenger's side of the vehicle.
The passenger control is on the heater A/C control head and is enabled by pushing the Dual button on the control head.
