Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED
J 38491 Spark Plug Heat Shield Removal Tool.
1. Turn OFF the ignition switch.
2. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
NOTE: Twist the spark plug boot one-halt turn in order to release the boot. Pull on the spark plug boot only. Do not pull on the spark plug wire or the wire could be damaged.
3. Remove the spark plug wires at the rear of the engine using the following steps:
^ Note the position of the spark plug wires before removing the wires.
^ Twist the spark plug boot 1/2 turn before removing the boot.
^ Gently pry the heat shield up from spark plugs using the J38491.
^ Remove the spark plug wires form the spark plugs at the rear of the engine.
4. Remove the spark plug wires (1,3,5) from the spark plugs at the front of the engine using the following steps:
^ Note the position of the spark plug wires before removing the wires.
^ Twist the spark plug boot 1/2 turn before removing the boot.
^ Gently pry the heat shield up from spark plugs using the J 38491.
^ Remove the spark plug wires form the spark plugs at the front of the engine.
5. Remove the spark plug wires from the wire looms.
6. When replacing the spark plug wires transfer any of the following:
^ Boot heat shields
^ Spark plug wire conduit
^ Spark plug wire retaining clips
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Spark plug wires to the engine.
2. Connect the spark plug wires to the ignition coil in the proper position. Left side spark plug wires (1,3,5) shown.
3. Connect the spark plug wires to the wire looms.
4. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs in the proper position. Right side spark plug wires (2,4,6) shown.
5. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement Service and Repair.
