- J 23653-SIR Lock Plate Compressor
- J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Do all steps under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in SIR COIL ASSEMBLY.
2. Do steps 5 through 7 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in T/S & MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ASM.
3. Do steps 2 through 6 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in LINEAR SHIFT ASM (REMOVAL). (Column shift only)
4. Do steps 2 through 7 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in UPPER TILT HEAD COMPONENTS.
5. Do steps 6 through 8 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in LOCK MODULE ASM.
6. Do steps 4 and 5 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT, in TILT SPRING.

Removing Pivot Pin:

7. Two pivot pins (56) using J 21854-01.
8. Steering column tilt head assembly (26).
^ Pull tilt arm to disengage Steering wheel lock shoes from dowel pins in steering column support assembly (57).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.

1. Steering column tilt head assembly (26).
^ Using tilt lever position lock shoes to dowel pins.
^ Rotate head assembly (26) until holes for pivot pins (56) line up.
2. Two pivot pins (56).
A. Lubricate with lithium grease.
B. Press pins until firmly seated two places.
C. Stake pins (56) three locations two places.
3. Do step 2 under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in TILT SPRING.
4. Do steps 2 through 4 under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in LOCK MODULE ASM.
5. Do steps 1 through 6 under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in UPPER TILT HEAD COMPONENTS.
6. Do steps 1 through 6 under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in T/S & MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH ASM.
7. Do steps 1 through 6 under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in LINEAR SHIFT ASM (REMOVAL) (Column shift only) and adjust and inspect.
8. Do all steps under INSTALL OR CONNECT, in SIR COIL ASSEMBLY.
