B0600

DTC B0600 Option Content Failure:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The instrument cluster calibrations are stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM). When the ignition switch is first turned on, the instrument cluster performs internal tests on the EEPROM and can determine the integrity of its non-volatile memory. It is in the EEPROM where information concerning the instrument cluster's configuration is stored. Information such as car model, point of sale, manufacturer, odometer mileage, and fuel tank capacity are listed here. These configurations are what will determine how the instrument cluster will interpolate data sent from other systems within the vehicle.

CONDITIONS FOR SETTING THE DTC
^ The instrument cluster has three consecutive unsuccessful attempts at writing to its own non-volatile memory.
^ Internal memory malfunction (write error) is detected by the instrument cluster.
^ Condition must occur when ignition is first turned ON.

ACTION TAKEN WHEN THE DTC SETS
^ Stores a DTC B0600 in the instrument cluster memory.
^ SERVICE VEHICLE SOON will be displayed for this DTC.

CONDITIONS FOR CLEARING THE DTC
^ Under all fault conditions, the ignition must be cycled before this DTC can change from current to history.
^ A history DTC will clear after 100 drive cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
^ Using a scan tool.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Since the EEPROM is not removable from the instrument cluster and a DTC B0600 is an internal malfunction to the instrument cluster, there is no repair procedure for this malfunction, and the instrument cluster will need to be replaced.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.
1. Always perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check before attempting to diagnose a DTC B0600.
2. This repair procedure requires that the instrument cluster be replaced.
3. Always clear DTCs after a repair procedure is complete.
