Replacing Lost PASS-Key(R) II Ignition Keys

To replace lost PASS-Key(R) II ignition keys it is necessary to determine the required mechanical cut and the key code to start the vehicle.

The mechanical cuts and key codes are recorded on the vehicle invoice. If these codes are available, use them to create a new key. If not, follow the procedure below:
1. Determine the mechanical cut.
^ The mechanical cut can be determined from the code sticker on the steering column (ignition) lock cylinder or from the original key knock outs.
^ If the mechanical cut can not be determined, the shifting column (ignition) lock cylinder should be replaced.
2. Determine the correct key code, by using the J 35628-A, adapter harness 3 35628-90, and the following procedure:
A. Connect the adapter harness J 35628-90 (48 way) connectors to both sides (body harness and steering column harness) of the steering column inline connector (C202).
B. Connect one adapter harness J 35628-90 (2 way) connector to the harness side of the steering column (ignition) lock cylinder connector (not the component side of steering column (ignition) lock cylinder connector).
C. Connect the other end of the J 35628-90 (2 way) connector to the interrogator.
D. Turn the J 35628-A on and place the key code switch in the number 1 position.
E. Attempt to start engine with the new proper mechanically cut key. If the engine starts, the key code is I.
F. If engine does not start, turn ignition switch to the OFF position.
G. Press the 4 minute timer on the J 35628-A.
H. When the timer light turns off, or the START CAR message is displayed. Place the J 35628-A key code switch in the next position (i.e. 2, 3, 4).
1. Attempt to start the engine;
^ If the engine starts, the correct key code has been determined and continue with step J.
^ If the engine does not start, continue performing steps F through I.
J. Using the correct key code and mechanical cut make a new ignition key.
K. Verify that the new ignition key start,: the engine.
