Oil Pan: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Remove the flywheel cover. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement.
4. Remove the oil level sensor. Refer to Oil Level Sensor Replacement in Powertrain Management.

NOTICE: Remove the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, before the oil pan is removed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil pan is removed first.

5. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Valve Assembly Replacement.





6. Remove the oil pan.





7. Remove the oil pump pipe and screen. Refer to Oil Pump Pipe and Screen Assembly Replacement.
8. Remove the oil pan gasket.
9. Clean the oil pan and cylinder block mating surfaces.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the oil pan gasket.

NOTICE: Install the oil level sensor, located in the oil pan, after the oil pan is installed. The sensor may be damaged if the oil level sensor is installed first.

2. Install the oil pump pipe and screen. Refer to Oil Pump Pipe and Screen Assembly Replacement.





3. Install the oil pan.
4. Install the oil pan bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 14 Nm (124 inch lbs.).

IMPORTANT: Do not over tighten the oil pan bolts or damage to the pan could occur.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the oil filter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Valve Assembly Replacement.
6. Install the flywheel cover. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement.
7. Install the oil level sensor. Refer to Oil Level Sensor Replacement in Powertrain Management.
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Refill the engine oil.
