SIR Coil Assembly - Floor Shift

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Do steps 1 through 4 under REMOVE OR DISCONNECT in UPPER COVER.
3. Air bag module and steering wheel.

NOTICE: SIR coil assembly (3) will become uncentered if:
1) Steering column is separated from steering gear and allowed to rotate.








2) Centering spring is pushed down, letting hub rotate while coil (3) is removed from steering column. If this occurs refer to the figure to center coil (3).

4. Retaining ring (2).
5. SIR coil assembly (3) from column.
A. Wire restraint clip (56) from bottom of steering column jacket support assembly (54).
B. Wire strap (31).
C. SIR and PAD control wires from wire harness strap (57).
6. Wave washer (4).

INSTALL OR CONNECT

NOTICE: Always use the correct fastener in the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunction of steering column.

1. Center upper shaft assembly (35) and SIR coil assembly (3).
A. Wheels straight ahead
^ Block tooth and centering mark on shaft assembly (35) at 12 o'clock position.
B. Ignition switch to "LOCK" position.
C. Ensure coil (3) is centered.
2. Wave washer (4).

NOTICE: New SIR coil assembly (3) will be pre-centered. Install new coil, remove and dispose of centering tab.

3. SIR coil assembly (3) to column.
A. Route SIR and PAD control wires under PASS KEY wire.
^ Secure into wire restraint clip (56).
^ Install wires into small loop and back through J-hook of wire harness strap (57).
^ Secure with wire strap (31).
B. Ensure shaft (35) and coil (3) are centered.
C. Align coil (3) with horn tower and slide onto shaft (35).
4. Retaining ring (2).
^ Ensure ring seats securely in groove on upper steering shaft (35).
5. Steering wheel and air bag module.
6. Upper cover (17).
7. Three tapping screws (26).

Tighten
Tighten screws (26) to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).

8. If all service operations are completed, enable the SIR system; refer to ENABLING THE SIR SYSTEM.
9. Negative (-) battery cable.
