Troubleshooting Hints
(Perform before beginning System Diagnosis)1. If the suspect vehicle does not crank, the PASSLOCK System is not at fault. Refer to Cranking Systems in Computers and Control Systems,.
2. Check bulb function of Theft Deterrent Indicator by cycling Ignition Switch to RUN with engine OFF (indicator should be ON). Verify vehicle complaint. If the indicator does not flash after the vehicle has stalled, the PASSLOCK System has not been engaged and is not at fault. Refer to Computers and Control Systems for Driveablity and Emissions.
3. Check the CLS/PCM, PCM, PCM/IGN, and the CLUSTER Fuse by visual inspection.
4. If multiple indicators are lit continuously, check for loss of serial data, Refer to Data Link Connector, in Electrical Diagnosis.
5. Check for engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's), Refer to Computers and Control Systems. Computers and Control Systems
6. Check for Instrument Cluster Trouble Codes (DTC's), Refer to Symptom Table.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system malfunction but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage check with a system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or resistive when loaded, and if possible, should be checked by monitoring for a voltage drop with the system operational (under load).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may affect the integrity of other systems (Refer to Troubleshooting Procedures, in Electrical Diagnosis.
