Power Locks: Description and Operation

When a front Door Lock Switch is activated in the LOCK or UNLOCK position, all of the doors lock or unlock in unison. Each lock can also be operated manually from the locking knob. The Automatic Door Locks are operated by reversible motors that receive voltage and ground from the Automatic Door Lock Relay. The Automatic Door Lock feature is controlled by the Multi-Function Alarm Module. If the Automatic Door locks are activated with a door open, the doors will not lock until closed.

Doors Lock (Automatic Transaxle)
With the Ignition Switch in RUN and the gear selector moved from the PARK or NEUTRAL position, the Multi-Function Alarm Module will receive a ground signal through CKT 1786. When the ground signal is received, power is supplied to the Door Lock Relay through CKT 195 to lock the doors. If the vehicle reaches 13 km/h (8 mph) without receiving the ground signal via CKT 1786. the Multi-Function Alarm Module will supply power to CKT 195. This occurs once per ignition cycle.

Manual Transaxle
The Multi-Function Alarm Module reads vehicle speed through CKT 817. With the Ignition Switch in RUN and the vehicle exceeding 13 km/h (8 mph), the Multi-Function Alarm Module provides power to the Door Lock Relay through CKT 195 to lock the doors. This occurs once per ignition cycle.

Doors Unlock
The Multi-Function Alarm Module unlocks all doors when it receives ignition off input through CKT 39 (ALARM Fuse). When ignition off signal is received, the Multi-Function Alarm Module supplies battery voltage through CKT 194 to the Door Lock Relay which in turn unlocks the doors. The DR UNLK Fuse has been designed as a disable feature for the Automatic Door Unlock feature. If the DR UNLK Fuse is removed, the Automatic Unlock feature will not operate.
