Mirrors: Description and Operation
Each Outside Mirror has two reversible motors: one to adjust the mirror view up and down, and the other to adjust the mirror view right and left. The driver operates four switches that control the polarity of the voltage to the motors. The Mirror Select Switch directs these control voltages to either the RH or LH Outside Mirror. With the switches in the positions shown in the schematic, the LH Outside Mirror is being controlled. When the Up-Down switch is moved DOWN, battery voltage from CKT 1732 is applied to CKT 1499 and the Up-Down Motor in the LH Outside Mirror. The LH Outside Mirror Up-Down Switch supplies a path to ground through CKT 88, the DOWN contacts of the Up-Down Switch and CKT 150. The LH Mirror Up-Down Motor runs to move the mirror down.
If the Mirror Control switch is pushed to the UP position, the same motor receives voltage and CKT 1499 is grounded. The motor runs in the opposite direction.
The LH Left-Right Motor operates in a similar manner when the joystick moves the Left-Right Switch to the LEFT position. CKT 1499 gets battery voltage and CKT 81 is grounded through the Left-Right Switch.
The RH Outside Mirror works the same way as the LH Outside Mirror when the mirror Select Switch is moved to the RH position and the joystick is operated.
Power Output Diagnostic Mode
There is a Power Output Diagnostic Mode in the Multi-Function Alarm Module that can be used to run a quick check on the operation of the Parasitic Power Control, the Courtesy Lamp Control, and Inadvertent Power Control outputs. It is activated after all of the following actions have been performed:
^ Close all doors.
^ Set Park Brake.
^ Turn Interior Lamps on using Panel Dimmer Switch.
^ Turn Ignition Switch to RUN and, before 15 seconds pass, perform these steps:
- Open the RH front door.
- Cycle the Headlamp Switch from PARK to OFF three times.
During Normal operation (no trouble found), the Multi-Function Alarm Module will flash the interior lamps for approximately one minute and return to normal operation. In the event a short is found in the Inadvertent output circuit (CKT 1733), the Multi-Function Alarm Module will chime one time every three seconds.
