Radiator Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Drain the cooling system. Recover the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.

NOTICE: When adding coolant, use DEX-COOL (R) coolant. If silicated coolant is added to the system, premature engine, heater core or radiator corrosion may result. In addition, the engine coolant will require change sooner-at 50,000 km (30,000 mi) or 24 months.

3. Remove the air intake duct assembly. Refer to one of the following procedures:
- Throttle Body Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management - 2.4L
- Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement in Powertrain Management

4. Disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler line from the radiator (Automatic Transmission).
5. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose and the clamp from the radiator.
6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
7. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler line from the radiator.
8. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric.
8.1. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector.
8.2. Remove the fan retaining bolt.
9. Remove the splash shield that is below the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body and Frame.





10. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Remove the retaining clip from the condenser line. Refer to Condenser Replacement in HVAC - Manual.
13. Remove the condenser to radiator bolts. Refer to Condenser Replacement in HVAC - Manual.





14. Disconnect the surge tank inlet hose and the clamp from the radiator (1).





15. Remove the radiator retaining bolts (1) and the mounts (2).
16. Remove the radiator.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the radiator
2. Install the radiator mounts and the bolts (1).
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Connect the surge tank inlet hose and the clamp to the radiator (1).
4. Install the radiator to condenser bolts. Install the retaining clip to the condenser line. Refer to Condenser Replacement in HVAC - Manual.
5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





6. Connect the radiator outlet hose and the clamp to the radiator.
7. Install the splash shield that is below the radiator outlet hose.
8. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric.
8.1. Install the cooling fan retaining bolt.
8.2. Connect the cooling fan electrical connector.
9. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler line to the radiator (Automatic Transmission).
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler line fitting to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Connect the radiator inlet hose and the clamp to the radiator.
12. Connect the upper transaxle oil cooler line to the radiator (Automatic Transmission).
^ Tighten the transaxle oil cooler line fitting to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).

13. Connect the air intake duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Intake Duct Replacement in Powertrain Management.
14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
