Compressor Replacement

A/C Compressor Mounting:






Tool Required:
J 39500 A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recharging, and Recycling Station

Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Serpentine belt.
3. Recover the A/C system.
4. Raise vehicle.
5. Engine splash shield.
6. Compressor hose assembly and discard sealing washers.
7. Plug or tape compressor/condenser hose end to prevent moisture contamination.
8. Clutch electrical connector from compressor.
9. Compressor bolts.
10. Compressor.

Important
^ If replacing the compressor, refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution.

Install or Connect

1. Compressor and mounting bolts.

Tighten
^ Bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

2. Electrical connector.
3. Compressor hose assembly, using new sealing washers.

Tighten
^ Bolt to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).

4. Engine splash shield.
5. Lower vehicle.
6. Serpentine drive belt. Refer to under hood label for routing.
7. Negative battery cable.

Tighten
^ Bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).

8. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. .
9. Leak test.
10. Check system operation.
