Engine Coolant Temperature Gage

The engine coolant temperature gage indicates the temperature of the engine coolant with the Ignition Switch in the RUN position. A Coolant Temperature Sensor in the engine changes resistance with coolant temperature. As coolant temperature increases, the resistance of the sensor decreases. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reads the resistance value and assigns an appropriate value between 0 and 255 counts

where it is transmitted to the Instrument Cluster via serial data. The Instrument Cluster reads the count value and assigns a deflection value which causes the needle in the gages to turn. The gage will read from 37.80°C to 113°C (100°F to 253°F)
