Intermediate Shaft Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the right tire and the wheel assembly.
Refer to Wheel Removal in Wheels and Tires.
3. Place shop towels underneath the outer joint in order to protect from any sharp edges.
4. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the right control arm.
5. Remove the right ball joint from the knuckle.
6. Remove the drive axle from the intermediate shaft.
7. Remove the bolts that retain the intermediate drive shaft support bracket to the engine.
8. Carefully disengage the intermediate axle shaft from the transaxle and remove the intermediate shaft assembly.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Place the intermediate shaft into position.
2. Install the bolts that retain the intermediate drive shaft support bracket to the engine.
^ Tighten the bolts to 66 Nm (48 lb ft).

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Coat the splines of the intermediate shaft with chassis grease.
4. Install the drive axle to the intermediate shaft.
5. Install the right ball joint to the knuckle.
6. Install the stabilizer shaft to the right control arm.
7. Install the right tire and the wheel assembly.

8. Remove the safety stands. Lower the vehicle.
9. Fill the transaxle with the proper fluid. Refer to the following procedures:
